PostSubject: Carved Horror Film's Manga Adaptation Listed by Amazon   Thu Feb 25, 2010 7:47 pm

The Amazon online retailer is listing Shizu Takamura's manga adaptation of the Kuchisake-Onna (Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman) horror film as a September 28 release from DC Comics' CMX imprint in North America. Amazon's listings do not necessarily indicate definite release plans or dates.

The title of the film refers to a well-known Japanese myth of a woman who jealously hunts down victims after her face was slashed from ear to ear. The myth became an urban legend in 1979 with reports of a real-life stalker of children with the same disfigurement. Kōji Shiraishi directed a 2007 film off a script that he and Naoyuki Yokota wrote based on the modern urban legend.

Tartan Video released the original film on DVD in North America. It describes the story as follows:

Legend holds that 30 years ago, a suburban town was terrorized by the spirit of a woman whose beautiful face had been grotesquely disfigured by a jealous husband. Roaming the streets wearing a long coat and surgical mask, the spirit would approach her young victims and, while removing the mask, ask if she was pretty. The victim's response would almost always lead to their violent death. Now, one by one, children are disappearing again. As teachers and officials desperately begin to investigate, a panic begins to build as the woman's spirit returns for some unfinished business and the town's dark secrets are exposed.

Fujimi Shobo published the manga adaptation in Japan in March of 2007, the same month during which the film opened in Japan.
